Editor's Note:

“Too often the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries are seen as stuffy and aloof. This is natural working in a regulated environment and comes with the territory of medicines. Moreover companies such as ourselves, who have chosen to engage with a tobacco company as partner for a product like Voke®, are seen as proxy organisations, lobby groups or satellites, who do not have a voice or a moral code.

We can assure you that we are none of the above. Whilst we operate in a regulated environment, and have to say some things in a certain way, we want to carry the debate and contribute to the discussions around the challenges and dilemmas, without shrinking away from our own views and opinions. Whilst we have chosen to partner with organisations that come with their own history, we seek to influence and engage with our views, mindful of our limitations, in order that we continue to develop better products and medicines, be it in tobacco harm reduction, asthma, or other areas.

These blog posts contain both ours and others’ views about healthcare, about problems like global epidemics such as tobacco mortality which we are fighting to solve, and a rationale behind why we choose certain paths and hold certain views. Due to the fields we work in, especially in tobacco harm reduction, where there can be incredibly personal and emotional perspectives because of its effect on so many people’s lives, we approach subjects with consideration and caution but not without liberty. We look to absorb views other than our own, about how we can provide better understandings and engagement in our fields and better outcomes for the future.”
